Sylvia, a novice alchemist, has successfully completed the task of repairing the highway. She visits the town's adventurers' guild to introduce herself and meets the guild master, Eileen. She quickly hits it off with Eileen—who reveres Sylvia's mother as a benefactor—but then, bad news arrives. "It's an emergency! A cave-in has occurred at the western mine!" Sylvia heads out with Eileen to conduct a rescue operation. The mine is a dangerous place teeming with monsters. The person trapped inside is paralyzed with fear. Sylvia uses her own body to give him the courage he needs. Though she is overwhelmed by the man—who clings to her desperately in his terror—she manages to bring the situation under control.
